3/3/24, Lake Placid, NY - Congratulations to Gabe Desautels on winning a Gold Medal in the Junior National Luge Championship! He had the fastest time in the Open Class Division and finished almost 2 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Gabe is training and competing at a high level and could one day be part of the Olympic team!

Aside from rigorous training, Gabe says his key to success is his coaches' motto:  “Always be chilling!” He says it's something that can apply to everything he does on a day to day basis and especially with luge. 

His mom, Jennifer Desautels says, "We are glad that Gabe chose Rice, since that decision has enabled him to continue learning in-person and complete his luge training. Gabe's teachers as well as the administration at Rice have been very supportive of Gabe managing a rigorous courseload while being on the Junior National Candidate team for USA Luge."
