Congrats to our Poetry Out Loud Participants

Mari Goodridge Miller, English Department Chair
Congratulations to the thirteen students who performed this morning before our faculty and nearly 400 of their peers in our school-wide poetry recitation competition for Poetry Out Loud. Three talented student performances rose to the top. Click Read More for the details and the names of our winners.
Fred Pohlen '20 took second place with his recitation of "Filling Station" by Elizabeth Bishop.  Anna Senesac '20 and Abi Jones '19 tied for first place, respectively performing "Propositions" by Stephen Dunn and "Cartoon Physics Part I" by Nick Flynn.  This unprecedented tie  will require a "poem-off" in front of the English department.  Anna and Abi will both recite two new poems and the winner will then move on representing Rice in the state Poetry Out Loud semi-final competition on March 7th at the Barre Opera House, and then hopefully the Finals on March 18th at the Vermont Public Television studio in Colchester.

Well done, everyone!
