Rice students give back to the community during summer break.
Many of our students use the summer months as a time to give back, both to the community at large as well as their respective parishes, organizations, and groups.
Andrew Zierak, Seamus Howrigan, Larissa Zierak, Ashley Boucher, and Bryanna Boucher wasted no time this summer, getting right to work on their service projects. The five Rice students dedicated over 30 hours of their time to the Diocese of Burlington's summer program called Totus Tuus, which translates to "totally yours". The summer camp, which took place at Holy Cross Church in Colchester, allowed youth in grades 1-8 to come and learn about Jesus all while having a blast. Our Rice volunteers helped the campers with a multitude of things, like making lemonade every day, putting out snacks, being mass buddies, classroom helpers, recess play pals, check in and check out greeters, kitchen help and errand runners.
"They do it all and they really make the program a success. We couldn’t offer the summer program without the volunteers. They are at Holy Cross before drop off and they are the last to leave," Dorine Brodeur Boucher, the Director of Religious Education at Holy Cross said.
