Rice Musicians Receive Top Honors

Kevin Ginter and Steffen Parker
Rice is proud of the eight student musicians who auditioned for this year’s All State Music Festival and the seven that were selected to join this year’s All State ensembles. Oboist Samantha Morgan ‘20 and violinist Vittoria Pizzagalli ‘23 will be in the 2020 All State Orchestra and all five of our singers who auditioned - Paloma Herrera ‘20, Jack Manning ‘21, Fred Pohlen ‘20, Gabriel Thompson ‘23 and Sam Thompson ‘20 - were selected for the 2020 All State Chorus.
A huge congratulations to Sam Thompson '20 who received a Vermont All State Vocal Scholarship.  Sam was selected from among 26 other vocalists from around the state and received one of only two scholarships given in this category this year.Sam sang two Opera arias one in Italian and one in English, both of which are on the university level or higher of difficulty. Sam works privately with Rice music teacher, Kevin Ginter and participates in the Vermont Opera Workshop led by Sarah Cullins.

You can see Rice’s musical talent on display during Rice’s performance of Stephen Sondheims, Into the Woods on the Christ the King School stage March 13-15th. In addition, Sam will sing in the upcoming Rice Music Department Masterclass, performing on April 4th at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Burlington and as Aeneus in the Vermont Opera Workshops spring production of Henry Percell's, Dido and Aeneus.
Bravo to all!
