The Rice Memorial High School ski teams delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 Slopeside Cup, held at Cochran’s Ski Area on February 4. Coming in as the defending champions, both the boys' and girls' teams were eager to make their mark once again. While the boys' team fell just short of defending their title, securing a strong third-place finish, the girls' team dominated the competition and successfully retained their Slopeside Cup championship.
Girls’ Team: Slopeside Cup Champions Once Again
The Rice girls' ski team showcased their depth and skill, securing first place with a total team score of six points—an exceptional performance. Leading the charge was Mya Forkey, who claimed the individual title with a combined time of 1:23.55, setting the fastest times in both runs. Ella McCormack followed closely behind, earning second place with a time of 1:25.65, while Maddie Wright rounded out the podium sweep for Rice, finishing third at 1:26.59. The depth of the Rice team was evident, with Taylor Moulton (4th, 1:30.68), Julia Lollis (6th, 1:32.90), and Brooke McCormack (9th, 1:35.41) all contributing top finishes. The collective dominance of the Rice racers ensured the team held onto their title in commanding fashion.
Boys’ Team: A Strong Podium Finish
On the boys’ side, Rice finished third overall, accumulating 23 team points in a highly competitive field. Waylon Lowe led the way with a 6th-place finish (1:26.49), followed by Vega Tariyal (8th, 1:27.35) and Peter Harris (9th, 1:27.56), all finishing within a second of each other. Zach Haskell (10th, 1:27.67) and Carson Smet (12th, 1:29.57) also posted strong results, solidifying Rice’s place on the podium. Although the team was unable to reclaim the Slopeside Cup, their depth was on full display with multiple top-20 finishes, including Logan Smet (15th, 1:33.42) and Daniel Grimes (20th, 1:39.08).
