Academics

On behalf of the Rice Memorial High School Community, it is truly my pleasure to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome.  Designed to produce well-rounded citizens, Rice provides a rigorous and enriched educational experience in a dynamic academic environment while being nurtured by a supportive staff.

Students at Rice can expect a course of study full of opportunity and flexibility to accommodate personal goals and interests.  A full complement of Honors and Advanced Placement courses, in addition to courses offered at the Burlington Tech Center and the Vermont Virtual Learning Cooperative, enhance the academic experience. This past year, over fifty percent of the juniors and seniors enrolled in AP classes.

Students will be guided through the academic rigors by a nurturing, competent, experienced and accessible staff dedicated to the education of the whole person (mind, body, and soul).  With a majority of the professional staff holding graduate degrees, the classroom setting moves beyond the mundane as teachers challenge students to think critically and to use textbook knowledge as an intellectual “jumping off point” to greater considerations.

Beginning the sophomore year with the PLAN test, the Rice Guidance Department works closely with students on the college application process and encourages all students to sit for the SAT and/or ACT as part of the junior/senior experience.  Scoring well above national averages, students position themselves for acceptance into colleges of choice. With ninety percent of each graduating class furthering their education, Rice alumni populate colleges and universities across the country.

We are very proud of our academic offerings and encourage you to review our course listings.
