Rice opened a new Makerspace Lab this fall to give students an opportunity to share ideas and solve real-world problems, while developing critical thinking and engineering skills.
Their first project was in response to UVM’s Aiken Engineering Challenge earlier this month. Students will next work on test-case scenarios inspired by St. Michael’s College’s chapter of GoBabyGo!, a University of Delaware program that modifies ride-on toy cars to fit the individual needs of young children with mobility issues.
To get started, the Rice Makerspace needs materials, including:
Old Power Wheels cars with chargers and batteries
Furniture padding and or cushions
Old bicycle wheels
PVC piping of various sizes especially 1/2" and 3/4"
